Following a lovely Bastille Day (Friday), where we celebrated with a fancy Nice style dinner, with lots of Mediterranean flavor, we woke up early, and met up with the St. Laurent group to travel eastward. Be sure to check out the St. Laurent-du-Var's blog for more pics! We visited Monaco, and took a tour of the Palace.... After Monaco, we traveled westward to the old hill-top village, of Eze. At the bottom of the hill lies the Fragonaade Perfume Factory, where student had a tour and learned how they manufacture their perfumes. Soon after, we trekked up the hill and explored the medieval village, full of winding streets, shops, galleries, and a beautiful panorama of the sea and hills.
Our first weekend in Nice, we visited two near by cities, Antibes and Cannes. In Cannes the students walked on the red carpet, played on the beach, and explored the city. Our staff member, Tiberio took some amazing photos that will be posted very soon! Please excuse the slow wifi, which I'm sure you've all heard about by now. In Antibes the students visited the Picasso Museum, and explored the beautiful town center. After everyone was settled, after classes during the week, student's spent their afternoons at Promenade Des Anglais in Nice, climbed to the Chateau to see the stunning views of the city and coast, and played the local favorite sport Petanque at a neighboring park! Firstly, and most importantly, all students arrived safely yet enthusiastic. After arriving one of the language teachers served us a nice lunch upon arrival, giving just a sample of the scents and tastes of the south of France. After orientation and ice breakers we ate at a pizza/pasta restaurant which they seemed to enjoy very much. Some were quite courageous to try different foods that they hadn't tasted in the US. After a nice promenade in the o ld city (and tasting delicious ice cream) we all returned to the residence ready for sleep.
Today I am happy to say that all students arrived on time for breakfast and their French placement tests. After lunch the students learned how to play petanque, a popular regional lawn bowling game and then we went to the beach to test out the temperature of the Mediterranean - Aaaahh! So refreshing! After dinner we visited the port and walked along the promenade. I am sure you will see many beautiful and fun pics that your children took. Tomorrow we are climbing the hill to see the chateau and then heading to the beach to play volleyball. Oh yes, how could I forget that prior to that they will actually be in a class and in the community for 3 hours, learning a most beautiful language. Are you jealous yet? That's all for now. Feel free to call at any time. Sincerely, Margaret |
